Martin Luther King Day
MLK Day is recognized as a national holiday and is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of January. This day is set aside to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and to embrace the principle of nonviolent social change espoused by Dr. King. It is also called a national day of service in our communities., of which Jubilee demonstrates throughout the year.
Jubilee, also holds, like Dr King , education as a high value. Here is a quote from a paper he wrote while in college:
“Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction. The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education. (The Purpose of Education – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Excerpted from Morehouse College Student Paper, 1947)
JCA and Jubilee Church are closed on Monday 1/20/25, in observance of MLK Day.
